Obituary of Ted Young

Harold “Ted” Edward Young

It is with deep love and gratitude that we announce the passing of Harold “Ted” Edward Young. Ted was a devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man whose life was defined by service, hard work, and family.

Ted began his remarkable journey as an RCMP officer at just 18 years old. Over the course of his 25-year career, he traveled across Canada, serving with honor and distinction. Among his many experiences, he had the privilege of guarding both the Queen and the Pope—moments that spoke to his dedication and professionalism.

After retiring from the force, Ted returned to his roots—the family farm. There, he worked alongside his parents and raised his beloved daughter, Meagan. Farming was more than a livelihood for Ted; it was a calling. He proudly tended dairy cattle, chickens, pigs, and later veal, all while caring for the 200 acres that connected him deeply to the land and his heritage.

Ted was a devoted father and his daughter’s hero—the first person Meagan called for advice, to share her adventures, or simply to say hello. His love extended to his grandchildren, Ava and Jack.

Ted will be forever remembered by his daughter Meagan Squire-Smith and son-in-law Ashley, his grandchildren Ava and Jack, his sister Scarlet Scaldwell and brother-in-law Doug, and nephews Shayne and Adam. He is predeceased by his parents, Mildred (Wernham) Young and Harold Young.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Denning’s of Parkhill, with a reception to follow. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Ted’s life and legacy.
