Obituary of Neeltje McQueen

McQueen, Neeltje (Tété) of Ailsa Craig, Ontario in her 90th year, after a short illness, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2011 at London Health Sciences Centre-University Campus. She was predeceased by her husband Col. M. V. McQueen, OBE, ED, CD. and brothers Rein and Willy. She is survived by sons Neil (Debbie), Nairn (Cheryl), Ian (Chris) and grandchildren Stephanie (Michael), Amanda (Kyle), Mark (Jodi), David (Andrea) and six great grandchildren MacKenzie, Conner, Isaac, Logan, Matthew and Evan. Tété was born in Holland in 1921 and spent her early years in the Dutch colony of Suriname where her father held a concession to harvest fine woods. She finished her education in Holland in a private school and lived through the WWII occupation of Holland. Her family was active in the Dutch underground, with Tété serving as a courier. She met her husband in May,1945 when the Canadian Army liberated Holland. She was very artistic creating many family heirlooms including oil paintings, stained glass windows, lamps and needlepoint. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received on Saturday, February 26th from 2-4 pm at T. Stephenson & Son Funeral Home, 171 Main Street, Ailsa Craig, (519) 293-3331. At Tété's request there will be no funeral service. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the London Humane Society.
