Obituary of Nicholas Jonathan Danby
Nicholas (Nick) Danby passed away November 5th, 2023 at home on his terms, with his family and dogs by his side. Nick met his wife, Ruth, while at university, and they remained lifelong partners and friends for 49 years. Making his family circle complete was the birth of a daughter, Allison (Ryan, grandchildren Maddy, Hayden and Austin) and the birth of a son, Brendon (Alicia and granddaughter Violet). His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he has passed onto all his children and grandchildren his love of the great outdoors. Trees were his great passion, and over his life time he was responsible for planting more than 20,000. He is survived by his sister Caroline (Alan with their children JD and Caitlin) of Texas- who will miss his zany cards. He will also be greatly missed by his father-in-law Harrold Clayson of Beamsville.
Nick was known for his (British) sense of humor, his easy going spirit, and his stubbornness to persevere no matter the odds. Nowhere was this more evident than in his mechanical prowess when tackling a project such as his motorcycles through the years, his antique cars and trucks, and even boats. Posted in his shop (aka extraordinary man cave) was the following: “Dad’s Garage-- If It’s Broke Call Dad --Open 24 Hours”. We will miss that willingness and “can do” spirit.
Thanks to all of his friends who visited him regularly- cheering him on, offering encouragement and support as his disease began to accelerate. When he could no longer do the physical work, he was still supervising and overseeing, even going so far as to replace an engine in one of the lawnmowers in the last three weeks.
There will be a celebration of life scheduled in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tree Canada in memory of Nick. Online condolences and donations may be made at www.denningfuneralhomes.com
