Obituary of George Evoy
George L. Evoy beloved husband of Ethel Evoy passed away peacefully at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia August, 7th 2007 in his 95th year. George was preceded in death by his parents Annie and Clarence Evoy, sisters Margaret McCahill and Jean Evoy and also survived by brother-in-law Neil McCahill. He will be greatly missed by nieces Patricia (Dean) Smith of Hale, Mich. and Wawa Ont., Margaret (Walter) Pauls of Collingwood, Ont., and Patricia (Jim) Beaupit of Stoney Lake, Ont. Also George has many great nieces and nephews, George was born in Strathroy on June 11th 1913. He married the former Ethel Clark in 1943 and were happily married for 64 years. George was elected Alderman in Strathroy before and after the Second World War in 1938-39 and 1947-48. In WWII he joined the Royal Canadian Service Corps. He was State Manager of Georgia AAA for many years. In July 1969 he became the General Secretary of the Valley of Scottish Rite and later secretary of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Georgia Inc. George received his 33rd Degree in 1975 and for 30 years brought honor to that Rank and Decoration. In Georgia, George belonged to Palestine Lodge #486; Mt. Zion R.A. Chapter #16; Jason Burr Council #13; and Atlanta Commandery #9. Additionally, his memberships include St. Ambrose Conclave of Red Cross of Constantine; Royal Order of Jesters; Atlanta Masonic Club; and the Royal Order of Scotland. George was one who fully dedicated himself to the true basics of Freemasonry and was one who set an outstanding example of the Craft. He will truly be missed. Visitation will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church 152 Albert St. Strathroy on Monday August 13th from 1:00pm to 1:30pm. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm with Rev. Steve Boose officiating. Donations to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Interment will take place in the family plot Strathroy Cemetery.
