Obituary of Doris Smith

SMITH, Doris Evelyn (Wright) - Peacefully with family at her side, Doris passed away on February 10, 2013 at Strathmere Lodge, in her 89th year. Predeceased by her husband Ross, parents Peter and Edna (Doan) Wright, and brother Vernon. Dear sister of Yvonne (Bruce) Lambert. Loving mother of Murray (Mary Lynn) Smith of London and Marsha (John) Raven of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Suzanne and Rodney Smith-Merkley, Peter and Anna (Karlen) Raven, Lyndsay and Greg Cartwright, Heather Raven, Andrew Smith and Michael Raven, and by great-grandchildren Anderson, Jacob and Petra Smith-Merkley and Matthew Cartwright. A member of the London branch of the Royal Canadian Naval Association and life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Sir Arthur Currie Branch 116. Doris served as a WREN in Halifax in World War II and was the only resident of Strathroy to visit the corvette HMCS Strathroy. Many thanks from the family to the doctors, nurses and support staff of Strathmere Lodge for their special care, compassion and support of Doris. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Doris' wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A family interment service will be in Strathroy Cemetery later in the Spring, preceded by a Legion service. Denning Bros. Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements. Donations would be appreciated in honour of Doris' life to the Royal Canadian Legion, the Royal Canadian Naval Association, the Strathmere Lodge Auxiliary, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Doris.
