I am so sorry to hear that Clara has passed. I have so many fond memories of visits around the pool while I was growing up. Mrs Thomas was my basketball agent and the reason I went to York! I was always so proud to come home to tell her of the latest accomplishments. Sincere condolences to you and the family Mr. Thomas on behalf of the Thuss family.

It is one of my favourite childhood memories of visits with Clara (Mrs. Thomas to me) as she watched my siblings and I splash around the pool. As I neared my own university departure, Clara was instrumental in making the connection with the York Women's Basketball coach and we always joked that not only was she a who's who in Canadian Literature, but a great basektball recruiter!! I always felt so proud to be able to tell her about my success at York and later in my position coaching and managing the National team. I will miss her dearly as I always felt like I was truly home when I would drop in in Strathroy. My thoughts are with you and your family Mr. Thomas on behalf of the Thuss family

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Clara.
I never had the pleasure to know her personally, even though we lived so close.
I will not forget her though. She was my first introduction to the people of Strathroy.
Shortly after moving to town, a friend (who had also just moved to town) suggested we go to the library & hear Clara Thomas talk on the life & times of the people in Strathroy. We did! There was tales of "olden" days by Clara & people in the audience.
It was interesting & educational.
I do believe her enthusiasm was one of the reasons I got hooked on genealogy.
Thank you, Clara.

My sincerest sympathy to the family. Professor Thomas supported and encouraged me when I was earning a Master's in Canadian Literature at York University in 1975. After I began her course, I was overwhelmed at the prospect of managing to study and look, after three small children while pregnant with a fourth. When I told Professor Thomas I was planning to drop out, she said, "Nonsense. I did my graduate studies while having and raising my children, and you can too!" Thanks to her encouragement, I did earn my degree and enjoyed a rewarding and successful career teaching at Humber College. Clara Thomas was a wonderful teacher as well as an inspiring role model. I hope your memories of her and her long and wonderful life will bring you comfort and consolation.

Goodbye Professor Thomas Goodbye to the colourful, vibrant, vivacious, caring woman of letters that you were! With your strawberry blonde perfectly coifed hair and your beads of many colours and your hearty laugh. Never dull or boring - always passionate about your subject matter and the students in your class! I had the privilege of taking a 4th year seminar on autobiographical works with Professor Thomas in 1978 at York. After all of these years the memory of her class still makes me smile. My deepest condolences to your family for the loss of such a intelligent, whirlwind of a woman! Glenda Brown
