Effie Lorraine Gilbert Hodgins Thompson

Born Sept 3,1940 to Kenneth Harold Gilbert (1905-1977) and Mable Aileen McTaggart (1913-1997). After a brief battle with cancer Lorraine peacefully passed away at Jessica’s House, Exeter on February 17, 2022.

Lorraine grew up in West Williams Township, and was the favourite sister of the late Kenneth Clinton Neil (late Grace Clark) Gilbert and Clarence Orville Gilbert.

Having no children, Lorraine tried to spoil her nieces and nephews as much as possible. Lorraine was the loving Aunt to Harold Clinton Gilbert, Anne Marie (Carl) Mollard (nee Gilbert) and their children Sean & Candace and son Jack, Ross and Emily and daughter Zoey (2019) and son Roy, Brooke and Jeff Oswald and daughter Hazel.

Predeceased by her first husband Gerald (Jerry) Frank Hodgins. They were married May 14, 1960 at Arkona United Church following four years of dating, they moved to the family, where they spent many happy years together. They operated a transport truck, hauling produce all over Eastern USA and Canada. Jerry passed away October 1983 after twenty-three and a half fantastic years of marriage. Lorraine hit the jackpot with in-laws, James Freeman Hodgins and Mabel Clarke. After being on her own from 1983, she married Ross Thompson on February 26,1999. Ross passed away April 28, 1999.

Survived by loving sister-in-law Marion Hodgins (Bruce) and their family, late Judy and late Arthur Sloan, Joyce and Jim Duncan and family; Pam, Chris & Renee; and their family Duncan and Danica, Jim and Cathy Hodgins and family; Andrea, Rebecca & John, Miranda & Jeremy. Late Clark and Doris Hodgins and family, Dianne (John), Karen (Tony), Kevin (Donna) and Marilyn (Bill), Late Willis and Elva Hodgins and family; Carol, Connie, (Cindy), Colleen.

Lorraine was a dear friend and traveling companion to many. Lorraine was a talented artist; she was able to create beautiful paintings as well as a wonderful photographer. A Genealogist since 1967, Member of Ontario Genealogy Society Main Branch, London-Middlesex Branch, Elgin County Branch, Niagara Peninsula Branch, and Lambton County Branch. Editor of newsletter and publishing Lambton County Branch. Member of Teeple People. Charter Member and Chairperson and board member of North Middlesex Historical Society and Editor and coordinator of McGillivray Township History Book. Lorraine also received the Canada 125 Award. Publisher of the John Graham Smith and Francis Clark Family History. Publisher of Keyser Kith and Kin.

A celebration of life is going to take place on February 22, 2022 at 1:30pm at the Ailsa Craig Recreation Centre. Vaccination is Required.
