Obituary of Helen Marie Telfer
Telfer, Helen Marie (nee Smith)
May 16, 1927 - March 18, 2023
Peacefully in her home in Ilderton, Helen passed away after a well-lived 95 years. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children Brian (Chie), Phil (Sharon) and Jan (Richard); her six grandchildren; Scott, Kara, Matt, Lee, Emma and Jenny; her 10 great grandchildren; her brother Don (Lorene) and sister-in-law Doreen. She was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” and her siblings Mary, Edna, Bill and Harold.
Helen was kind hearted and always had a genuine interest in the lives of her loved ones. She was incredibly bright, quick-witted, was slow to judge, and always wished the best for others. Having been widowed since 1980, she was independent and self-sufficient. She did a lot of traveling with family and friends, loved to play golf and curl in her younger years. Helen was dedicated to her community, becoming a member of Vanneck United Church in 1947 until its recent closing. When she moved to Vintage Green in 2001, she joined their choir and enjoyed her competitive Bid Euchre games. Her greatest passion was playing the piano and she was a co-founder of the VG’s, a band that plays every Thursday night. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and we will remember Helen with love and gratitude in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the HCCSS for all their support so Helen could fulfill her wish to remain in her home. Also, a huge hug to all of Helen’s friends at Vintage Green, your love and support meant so much to Helen and her family.
A celebration of life will be held at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY on March 23, 2023. There will be a visitation at 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. A light luncheon to follow. Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to HCCSS, Home and Community Care Support Services, or charity of your choice. Online condolences and donations may be made at www.strathroyfuneralhome.com
